Spierings (ankle) is on the bench for Saturday's matchup against Vancouver Whitecaps.
Analysis: Spierings had previously served as a constant midfield force, tallying at least 30 accurate passes and two tackles in each of his last three league starts. While it may take some time for him to regain momentum, he looks set to take a spot from either Noel Caliskan or Colin Guske at some point in the final stretch of the regular season.
Unavailable due to ankle issue
Spierings is expected to be inactive for the time being after picking up an ankle injury, the MLS reported Friday.
Analysis: Spierings is a defensive midfielder who has been an important piece in RSL's lineup, providing the defensive structure and ball-winning intensity that allows the team to press effectively, and his ankle injury is a significant blow to the squad. Noel Caliskan and Pablo Ruiz might carry most of the midfield workload until Spierings is ready to play agin. However, a return timeline will depend on the severity of the ankle problem, which remains to be determined.

Spierings assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and three chances created in Wednesday's 3-0 victory versus Houston Dynamo.
Analysis: During the second half, Spierings logged an excellent through-ball to Zavier Gozo, who subsequently scored Real Salt Lake's third goal. Since early-April, each of the former's seven appearances includes a start, so it looks like that is how RSL will operate moving forward.
