Transfers to Portland
Hernandez has been acquired by Portland Timbers as a summer signing from Atlanta United, the club announced Wednesday.
Analysis: Hernandez had been limited in a substitute role since recovering from an abdomen injury in May, and this switch should allow him to see more opportunities for the remainder of the season. He'll likely take a spot in the right-back contention with Eric Miller while Brandon Bye (knee) and Juan David Mosquera (ankle) remain sidelined. The Venezuelan defender could provide some attacking projection, although he's more consistently reliable for clearance and tackle numbers when given meaningful playing time.
Off injury report
Hernandez (abdomen) is fit to play after overcoming his injury, according to the club's managing editor Adam Jasper.
Analysis: Hernandez will be an option for upcoming contests, although it's unclear if he'll play a significant role given that he had stayed on the bench for most of the campaign even before his injury. Thus, he may serve as a backup right-back behind current starter Tomas Jacob in the short term.
