Returns to full training
Surman (knee) was a full participant in training Thursday, Jeremy Peterman of Cascadia FC reports.
Analysis: Surman had been recovering from an MCL sprain suffered in late September and could finally be coming close to a return to action. This marks another positive step in the defender's recovery after he previously had been limited to rehab work on the side. However, it doesn't mean he'll play right away, and it remains to be seen when he'll reclaim his starting role. Once he does, Joel Waterman and Kamal Miller will be at risk of dropping out of the main lineup.
Doing rehab on side
Surman (knee) had no equipment on his knee and was doing rehab work on the side at training Wednesday, Adam Susman of The Timber Review reports.
Analysis: Surman is roughly two weeks into a projected four-to-six-week recovery timeline after spraining his medial collateral ligament in training on September 22. The defender is no longer wearing any equipment on his knee, marking a clear sign of progress in his recovery process. He continues to work individually on the pitch and will need to integrate back into full team sessions before being considered for selection. His eventual comeback will bolster Portland's defensive options, as he had started every MLS match this season prior to his injury.
