Signs new long-term Liverpool deal
Szoboszlai has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield ahead of the 2026-27 season, the club announced.
Analysis: Szoboszlai posted the best individual numbers of his Liverpool career in 2025-26, finishing with 13 goals and 12 assists from 53 appearances and taking home the club's Player of the Season award, a reflection of him carrying the team through a difficult campaign more than anyone else in the squad. He had already tasted success in his first two seasons at Anfield, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023-24 and the Premier League in 2024-25. What sets Szoboszlai apart is his positional flexibility, having deputized at right back through injury crises while also featuring as a No. 10, box to box midfielder and winger over the course of his time at the club. Beyond his versatility, Szoboszlai has developed into one of Liverpool's most dangerous shooters from distance and a genuine set piece threat. That combination of adaptability and end product made him a key figure the club prioritized tying down long term as it moves into a new managerial era under Andoni Iraola.
Present for start of preseason
Szoboszlai was present and in high spirits at the start of Liverpool's preseason, returning to training ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, the club posted.
Analysis: Szoboszlai operated as the driving force in Liverpool's midfield last season, combining relentless pressing intensity with the technical quality and late box arrivals that made him one of the most complete box to box midfielders in the Premier League. Under new coach Andoni Iraola, his exact role remains to be seen, though his profile suggests he should continue to feature centrally in midfield. Having established himself as an indispensable starter for Liverpool, he will be expected to build on that foundation under the new coaching setup in 2026-27.
