Emerging as starting right-back
Freeman has started each of the last two matches at right-back after beginning the season in a reserve role.
Analysis: Freeman appears to have moved ahead of Santiago Mourino in the right-back hierarchy after earning consecutive starts. The defender has created three chances while recording 13 tackles, one interception and 11 clearances across six La Liga appearances. His recent run in the starting XI suggests he could continue to receive regular opportunities after beginning the campaign primarily as a substitute.
Back in training for preseason
Freeman has returned to training with Villarreal for preseason after his participation with the United States at the World Cup, the club announced.
Analysis: Freeman had a strong tournament, contributing a goal and an assist during the competition, numbers that reflect his attacking instincts and willingness to push forward from right back. His return now shifts focus to Villarreal's preseason preparations, where his pace and energy down the flank will put him in competition with Santiago Mourino for the starting role. Freeman is expected to build up his fitness gradually as preseason continues.
